DIY Familiar Faces Cards
If you’re looking for a fun and creative way to help your baby learn to recognize familiar faces, one of the best activities you can do is to make Familiar Face Cards.
These cards are designed to help babies recognize and remember the faces of their close family and friends. Making these cards is a great way to get your baby excited about learning and to also get them used to seeing the faces of their loved ones.
To make Montessori familiar faces cards, you will need:
Cardstock or photo paper
Photos or images of people (real or illustrated)
Scissors
Glue or tape
Optional: laminator for durability
Step 1: Gather photos or images of people. Feel free to include different people that your baby may see on a regular basis, such as parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and teachers.
Step 2: Print onto cardstock or photo paper
Step 3: Cut out the images. You can leave a small white border around the image to make it easier to cut out
Step 4: Write the name of the person on the bottom of the card.
Step 5: Optional: Laminate the cards for durability.
Once you have your cards prepared, it’s time to introduce them to your baby. Start by showing your baby the cards one at time and slowly saying the names of each person.
It's also a great idea to use the cards as a starting point for talking about family members and their relationship to the baby. This can help the baby to understand the concept of family and develop a sense of belonging.
It is important to note that babies develop at different rates and it may take some time for them to start to recognize and associate the names with the faces.
For older children, you can use the cards to play games and have discussions with the children. For example, you can ask the children to match the images with the names, or have them tell you a little bit about each person.
